Looking back at Resident Evil 5 reveals a game that is both of its time and surprisingly timeless.
What still shines
The co-op design, satisfying weapon upgrades and spectacular set pieces remain highlights. The Mercenaries mode is as addictive as ever.
What feels dated
Stop-and-shoot controls and partner AI in solo play feel older than the rest of the package.
Verdict
Played with a friend, RE5 is still an excellent action-horror experience and an important chapter in the story of Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker.
CONTRA GAME score: a strong recommendation for co-op fans and series completionists.
